The role

This is a new role in a small finance team. As Business Controller you own Takomo's forecasting: the monthly rolling forecast, the models behind it and the tools that produce it.

You run the annual budget process with function leads, and you turn our data (Shopify, Odoo, Global-e, marketing platforms, warehouse feeds) into analysis that shapes decisions on pricing, launches, marketing spend and inventory.

You will have an opportunity to build the next version of how a growing DTC brand plans its business, with AI-native tools as a default part of your workflow.

What you will do

Forecasting

• Own the monthly rolling forecast for revenue, gross margin and cash across all markets.

• Develop driver-based forecasting: units and average selling price by segment and market, new versus returning customers, launch and campaign calendars, seasonality.

• Track forecast accuracy and improve the models based on what the errors tell you.

• Model product launches, pricing changes and campaigns before they happen, with scenarios and ranges rather than single point estimates.

Budgeting

• Run the annual budgeting process end to end: timeline, templates, owner submissions, consolidation and board-ready output.

• Partner with function leads (marketing, partnerships, operations, product, tech, people) on their budgets and hold them to the numbers through the year.

• Keep budget and forecast clearly distinct: the budget is the commitment, the rolling forecast is the living view.

• Monthly variance analysis (actual vs budget vs forecast) with explanations that name the drivers, not just the gaps.

• Unit economics by product, market and customer segment, campaign incrementality, inventory and working capital analysis.

• Ad hoc business cases for the CEO, leadership team and board.

• Design and build the forecasting and reporting tooling yourself: data pipelines from Shopify, Odoo and other sources, models in Python or SQL, dashboards the business actually uses.

• Use LLM-based tools and agentic workflows as a normal part of building, analysing and documenting, and help the rest of the finance team do the same.

• Automate recurring reporting so that time goes into thinking, not assembling.

• Minimum of five years in business controlling, FP&A, or a similar analytical finance role, with forecasting as a core part of the job.

• A track record of building forecasting models or planning systems from scratch, not only operating existing ones.

• An AI-native way of working: you already use LLM tools daily to build, analyse and write, and you have views on where they help and where they do not.

• Strong grasp of P&L, gross margin and cash flow mechanics.

• Fluent in Finnish and English (our working languages across markets).

• DTC, e-commerce or consumer products background

• Experience with Shopify, Odoo or similar ERP data

• Statistical or ML forecasting experience
